Season Comes to a Close

As many of our fans already know, the Varsity season came to a close Saturday afternoon at St. Xavier High School, when they were defeated 2-3 by North Bullitt in the 6th Region Championship Game.  The Varsity Bears finished 2014 with a 25-9 record and another 22nd District Championship.  This was the second year in a row the Bears finished as regional runner-up and losing in the championship by a score of 2-3.

This was another exciting year for the Butler Baseball Program and we look forward to building on the success we had in 2014.  We lose a tremendous senior class, however we are excited about where this program is heading.

The events for this season will close next Wed. June 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center with our annual Banquet.  Please contact Tony Weber our Booster Representative about purchasing your tickets.

*Varsity players will meet Thursday after school in the locker room to turn in their uniforms.  ALL lockers must be cleaned out by the end of the week!

District Champs

Last night the Varsity Bears defeated the DeSales Colts, for the second time in as many weeks, 4-1.  This gave the Bears 9 district titles in a row!

Tuesday opened up district play for the Bears as they played Iroquois in the second semi-final contest of the day at Milan Perpich Field.  The Bears went on to win 14-0 in 5 innings, lead offensively by Johnny Thrasher and on the mound by Travis Weber.

The Championship game was a bit more exciting, as the Bears scored all of their runs in the first and third inning.  Nolan Simpkins lead the way offensively for the Bears, going one for two on the night capped off by his solo home run in the third.  The Colts never could get anything going against the Bears starter, Tyler Sturgeon, who went 6 1/3 innings only allowing only one run.

Next week the Bears will play host for the first round of the 6th Region tournament on Monday May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Milan Perpich Field  Their opponent will be determined Saturday morning at the regional draw.

Fans please note that ticket prices for the 6th Region Tournament are $7 and no passes will be accepted (per KHSAA).

Regular Season Review

I'm sorry to announce our regular season has come to an end. The season always seems to fly by! I'd like to take this time to thank all the players and there family's for their involvement in helping make this program one of the best in the state. It truly takes everyone! We had our bumps in the road, especially the weather, but that's why I call us a family because no matter what we stick together. Thank You All!

As we close the regular season let me update you on how our teams finished the year.  The Freshman team closed out the regular season on Saturday with a disappointing loss to cross town foe Ballard.  This was coming off a good win last Monday night against the other traditional school in town Male.  They finished with a record of 11-8.  We are excited to watch these young men grow over the next three years!

Our JV team also closed out the year with a win over rival Male and then a disappointing loss to Ballard last week.  The JV finished with a 13-6 record on the season.  This team showed signs of there potential throughout the year and we see these players only adding to the tradition of the program in years to come!

Finally, our Varsity team wrapped up the 2014 regular season on Saturday.  The last two weeks have been filled with momentum for the Bears.  Finishing 5-1 in there last six games, with there only loss to a very good Ballard club by one run, the Bears are playing very well heading into the post-season.  The Varsity finished the regular season 21-8 and open district play tomorrow night against the winner of Iroquois and Western at 6:30 p.m.  We are hoping for a long and exciting ride through the post-season!

Butler will be hosting the 22nd District Tournament starting today through Wednesday.  The full game schedule is listed below:

Weekly Recap

This week was another exciting and eventful one for the Bears.  Weather played another role in disrupting play early but blessed us over the weekend.  No games were able to be played by the Bears until Wednesday afternoon when the JV traveled to Manual Stadium to take on the Crimsons.  The Bears were victorious winning 14-0 and carried that momentum into Sat. where they won an extra inning duel at Oldham Co. 2-1.

Thursday the Varsity returned to action to take on district foe Western on the road.  The Bears won easily Thursday and continued their winning ways for the first game on Saturday, pulling out the narrow victory against South Oldham 2-1 in the Earl Driskoll Memorial at Male.  In the second game of the day for the Varsity things did not go as smoothly, as they rallied from behind to take the lead on the Bulldogs but could not hold on, losing 4-9.

The Freshman Bears did not go into action until Friday evening as they traveled to Lafayette HS (Lexington) to play in the Rising Star Freshman Tournament.  Friday night brought on Madison Central and a very close ballgame resulting a narrow defeat for the Bears, 1-2.  Saturday in their return to Lafayette the Freshman Bears defeated Scott Co. 6-2 before losing another close game 3-4 to host Lafayette.  This was yet another tough loss in a close game for the Bears.

As we move into another week of the season the overall records for the Bears stand:

Varsity: 12-5
JV: 8-5
Freshman: 5-6

Updated Schedule

There have been some changes to the schedule's throughout the program.  Saturday's JV game has been moved up to an 11:00 a.m. start time.  We have also added a JV/F DH to next week.  Our JV team will play at Fern Creek at 5:00 p.m. and our Freshman at 7:30 p.m.  These will be some compensation for the cancellations we have had so far this spring.
