Weekly Round-up

This past week stayed true to how the season has gone thus far for the Bears.  The trend of peaks and valleys continued with solid performances, self-destruction, and back-and-forth play.

The Freshman displayed the exact definition of this peak and valley play this week.  After traveling over to St. Xavier for a defeat, followed by a rain out at home to North Bullitt, they responded with a very solid outing against West Jessamine.  The Freshman Bears are back in action tonight as they travel to Eastern and sit at 4-8 on the season.

The JV can't seem to get rolling in the right direction for very long.  It seems they can keep things together for an inning or two but then they self-destruct at times.  After traveling to St. Xavier and suffering a loss, then getting rained out against North Bullitt, they could not regroup against West Jessamine.  The JV Bears are back in action at Eastern tonight as well, and are now 5-8-1 on the season.

The Varsity team continues to put together solid outings but could not string together back-to-back wins this week.  They opened district play against Western with a victory but then lost a tough one at Ballard later in the week.  The next day they responded with an extra inning win against Lafayette but then fell to Trinity on the back end of a double-header Saturday.  Our Varsity team is back in action with another district opponent tonight, hosting Iroquois.  They will also be a host site for this weekend's L.I.T.  A full schedule of games at Milan Perpich Field this weekend is listed below.

Weekly Round-up

The spring weather was in full effect this past week allowing all teams to get most of their games in.  Both the Freshman and JV teams were able to play three games each and the Varsity played four, while rescheduling another due to the rain early in the week.

The Freshman had a tough week of competition and were not able to overcome those demands.  They fell in each of their contest this week to Collins, Oldham Co., and Manual.  This week they hope to rebound Wednesday as they travel to St. X.  They will also host North Bullitt and West Jessamine later in the week.  The Freshman Bears are now 3-7 on the season.

Our JV team displayed much of the same it has so far this season, giving us another up and down week.  They suffered a loss at Collins and also to Oldham Co. Friday night, before picking up a big win Saturday as they played host to Manual.  This week they travel to St. X and host North Bullitt and West Jessamine.  The JV Bears are now 5-6-1 on the season.

The Varsity Bears had a very productive week going 3-1 in their four games.  They picked up a solid win against Manual Wednesday, and showed some tenacity in a come from behind win Thursday hosting Collins.  On the weekend the Bears traveled to Tates Creek to take on two ranked opponents.  The Varsity Bears ran into a buzz-saw on the mound in the first game against Johnson Central and couldn't get anything going offensively until late suffering the loss 6-8.  In the night cap, the Bears battled a very tough Tates Creek team in a back and forth contest, getting the victory 4-3.  The Varsity is back in action for a district contest on Tuesday at Western for a 5:30 p.m. contest.  Later in the week the Bears will travel to North Bullitt and are at Ballard Friday and Saturday for three games.  The Varsity Bears sit at 9-6 on the season

Program Round-up

Over the past few weeks the Bears have been on a roller-coaster throughout the program.  Each level has experienced big wins and devastating defeats.

The Freshman Bears have finally got the opportunity to play some games on a frequent basis.  After several rain outs early on the Freshman are sitting at 3-4 on the season with wins over Spring Break against rival PRP and Manual.  Although these Bears have suffered some tough losses they are showing good progress.  The Freshman are back in action tonight at Collins after the JV game.

The JV Bears have been busy since the last update playing five games over Spring Break and another against a team from Chicago.  These Bears have truly been on a roller coaster of big wins and big losses and stand with a 4-4-1 record including a tie with Holy Cross over Spring Break.  As we move into the second-third of the season these Bears hope to find some stability defensively and on the mound.  The JV are back in action tonight at Collins at 5:30 followed by the Freshman.

The Varsity Bears have played a steady dose of tough competition over the last few weeks and stand with a 6-5 record.  After picking up a big win against Glenbard West (IL), they suffered tough losses against Wheaton North (IL) and St. X, where they had leads in both contest.  These Bears then ventured to Gatlinburg, TN for the Smoky Mountain Invitational.  There the Bears went 2-2 in four games suffering losses to Sevier Co. (TN) and Easley (SC), while picking up wins against Murfreesboro Central (TN) and Clinton (TN).  The Varsity is back in action tomorrow night for their first District game at Doss for a 5:00 first pitch.

Schedule Update

We have made some changes to our schedule due to the weather last night.  There will be no JV game tonight and the Varsity game with Glenbard West has been moved back for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Also, we are trying to add a JV/F DH or just a single JV game tomorrow night.  We will have a confirmed update on tomorrow this evening.  That information will be released asap.

Week 1 Round-up

This week marked opening day for all of our teams as weather kept our Freshman and JV teams from playing on Mar. 19th.  As a whole the program is 6-2 on the season, with the Varsity 3-1, JV 3-0, and the Freshman 0-1.

The JV got things started on the right foot Monday night as they took care of the Rebels of Atherton fairly easily.  This was followed up with wins at Southern Wednesday night and at home on Saturday against Bullitt Central.  The JV Bears are back in action Monday as they take on Glenbard West High School out of the Chicago area.

The Freshman had to wait until Saturday to get their season started with several rain out's over the last week.  Originally scheduled Bullitt Central, had to cancel but Oldham Co was able to fill-in and brought over a very good team.  The Freshman Bears fell 2-6 but showed great promise.  These Bears will be back in action at home on Thursday as they will host Male.

Our Varsity club has started the season on a positive swing, taking three of their first four games.  The Bears traveled for all four games picking up wins at Southern, Eastern, and Male.  Their only loss this week was to a very good South Oldham club at Male in the Watt/Driskell Memorial on Saturday.  The Varsity Bears will be back in action Monday as they play host to Glenbard West High School out of the Chicago area.

This week their will be plenty of chances to see the Bears in action at beautiful Milan Perpich Field.  There are games each day Monday thru Friday in Shively.  We hope to see everyone at the ball park this week!
